Im thinking they initially meet about 10 years before the events of Knives Out, probably at some antiquing convention or something. They hit it off, maybe hook up, realize they’re better off as friends and then stay in touch even as they continue with their respective lives. Az helps Benoit solve the occasional cozy murder. They’re just a delightfully gay eccentric pair of besties who everybody thinks is a couple and they always laugh and say “oh no we tried that but it didn’t work out” or some shit as they clink their teacups together and wiggle their eyebrows at each other
those first couple weeks after escaping a time loop have gotta be disorienting as all fuck. all those little cues that used to tell you what's about to happen are now triggers that cause you to brace for something that isn't coming. you have to relearn the permanence of death -- hell, you have reacquaint yourself with the entire concept of finality altogether. everything keeps changing but it never changes back and you keep having to remind yourself that this is normal. "it won't reset anymore," you echo to yourself, over and over and over, like a broken record, like you're still trapped in a loop, like someone who escaped the time loop but was doomed to bring it into the future with them
one thing about me is when i read or watch something and there's an evil child or some sort of monster who was born a monster i'm always going to side with the monster. sorry about your loser parents i would have loved you. skill issue

No you are completely right. They are cute. They are so cute and should be hugged and protected do not look up the game mechanics. Do not look up the Pikmin game mechanics the Pikmin are always safe and happy
Oh so that explains why Captain Falcon murdering all those Pikmin wasn't a big deal.
